I had been after this vinyl version of Deep Purple for a very long time.
I had the CD for years but as an avid collector of Deep Purple I needed to add this vinyl to my D.P. collection.
Also this was the last album with vocalist Rod Evans who later went on to join Warhorse. This early album from Purple following their debut is a great album. Of course guitarist Ritchie Blackmore is in outstanding form and proves how he develops along the way to In Rock etc. He is particularly on fire during the percussive-based opening track Chasing Shadows with use of his wah-wah pedal. Evans bass and fine vocal star on Blind while again Evans delivers well on Why Didn't Rosemary? Following the funky-purple sound on Bird Has Flown we come to the finale that focuses on the instrumental work-out April, with Evans adding vocal towards the end) a lengthy track which in its day was worth the price of admission alone and probably a pre-cursor for Deep Purple with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra later. With its striking Hieronymus Bosch fold-out cover, this album stands proudly in my Deep Purple collection.
